No. 24 Virginia Completes Day One of Power Five Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich.–  The No. 24 Virginia men’s track and field team finished the first day of competition on Friday (Feb. 2) at the Power Five Invitational, hosted by Michigan, at the U-M Indoor Track Building in Ann Arbor, Mich.

In the 5000m run, redshirt sophomores Ari Klau (West Hartford, Conn.) and Alex Corbett (Burke, Va.) finished third and eighth, respectively. Klau recorded a time of 14:10.93, ninth fastest in UVA history. Corbett placed eighth with a time of 14:17.13.

“Ari competed very well,” assistant coach Pete Watson said. “He committed to the pace and raced well. That was a huge personal best for him and should be a stepping stone for big results in the future.”


 

 

Sophomore Randy Neish (Glastonbury, Conn.) paced the Cavaliers in the mile, finishing second with a time of 4:13.10. Senior Kenneth Hagen (Blacksburg, Va.) placed 11th in the event with a time of 4:21.00.

Advancing to finals of the 60m hurdles, junior Emmanuel Jackson (Raleigh, N.C.) finished sixth in the event with a time of 8.20.

Junior Jake Dixon (Falmouth, Maine) finished 12th in the 400m with a time of 49.81, while freshman Jordan Willis (Williamsburg, Va.) finished 16th with a time of 50.34 and redshirt junior Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) finished 20th with a time of 51.40.

Additionally, Jackson finished 16th in the 60m dash with a personal-best performance of 7.11, while Lint placed 12th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.46.

Graduate student Mike Marsella (Hope Valley, R.I.), freshman Alfred Shirley III (Chesapeake, Va.), Hagen and sophomore Spencer Dodds (Temecula, Calif.), respectively, finished fourth in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:48.71.

Virginia will resume competition tomorrow for the second day of the Power Five Invitational, with events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
