CLEMSON, S.C.-  The Virginia women’s track and field team concluded the final day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational, hosted by Clemson, on Saturday (Feb. 10) at the Indoor Track & Field Complex in Clemson, S.C.

Junior Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.)) led the team, finishing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.99m (42’7.5). Her performance ranks third on Virginia’s all-time records list and currently places her 18th in the NCAA.

"Kelly had a season-defining day today in the triple jump," assistant coach Mario Wilson said. "She eclipsed her previous indoor best on all of her jumps in what you could call a hostile environment. Most, if not all, of the finalists had competed in prior NCAA championships. Kelly knew what she was up against and rose to the occasion in style."

Redshirt junior Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) placed 23rd in the triple jump. She recorded a mark of 11.97m (39’3.25”).

Freshman Brittany Jones (Bloomfield, Conn.) and junior Jade Baker (North Richland Hills, Texas) finished 21st and 25th, respectively, in the weight throw. Jones recorded a career-best mark of 15.99m (52’5.5”). Baker finished with a mark of 14.76m (48’5.25”).

In the women’s 200m dash, sophomore Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.) finished 38th overall with a career-best time of 25.11. Senior Kiana Hairston (Manassas, Va.) captured a time of 25.67 for 47th place.

"Track and field is such a unique sport," director of track and field Bryan Fetzer said. "Individual but a team. Since there's not a definitive win or loss except for the championships, ACCs or NCAAs, it is hard to say 'we had a great weekend' or 'we won this weekend.'  On that note, we had some individuals really take some positive steps forward, while others need to learn to step up their performance when an opportunity arises.

"We will be able to use this as an opportunity to see the adjustments that need to be made when we come back in two weeks for ACCs."

Clemson will host the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships February 22-24.

Virginia returns to action on February 17 as members of the team compete in the UCS Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C.
