STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—Virginia junior runner Henry Wynne’s school record in the 3,000 meters highlighted the No. 18 UVA men’s track and field team’s action at the Fastrack National Qualifier Invite Friday (Feb. 12) in Staten Island, N.Y., at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Wynne (Westport, Conn.) broke the school record in the 3,000 meters, placing second in 7:53.89, which ranks sixth nationally and second in the ACC this year. Senior Adam Visokay (Ruckersville, Va.) placed third in the event in 7:54.24, which ranks third on UVA’s all-time list. That time ranks seventh nationally and third in the conference this year.

"What a race by Henry and Adam ran a great race as well," UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. "It is even more impressive when you know how far they have come over the years."

In the men’s shot put, redshirt sophomore Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) placed first with a throw of 19.39m (62’ 9.25”), while redshirt freshman Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was second with a mark of 18.82m (61’ 9”). Efekoro also competed in the weight throw, placing third with a distance of 18.43m (60’ 5.75”).

Redshirt sophomore Aaron Worrell (Fort Eustis, Va.) captured the triple jump title with a distance of 15.39m (50’ 6”).

"Our field events group continues to excel," Fetzer said. "You can see how they rise to the level of expectations. We are so excited to have Aaron Worrell back. He jumped with a lot of confidence today and that is going to carry over the rest of the season."

Senior Evan Chiplock (Saginaw, Mich.) won the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:17.16.

Junior Nathan Kiley (Chantilly, Va.) finished third in the 800 meters in 1:49.20, which ranks fifth on UVA’s all-time list and is currently No. 3 in the ACC. Sophomore Kenneth Hagen (Blacksburg, Va.) was seventh in 1:50.87, which is 10th on UVA’s all-time list.

The 4x400-meter relay of Kiley, freshmen Charles Bowman (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Devin Barnes (Henrico, Va.) and sophomore Logan Carrington (Leesburg, Va.) placed fourth in 3:15.18.

In the pole vault, redshirt sophomore Jeff Jernigan (Dekalb, Ga.) placed sixth with a height of 4.75m (15’ 7.25”).

"Today we put ourselves in the position we needed to be in as we head into the ACC Championships both from a competitive and confidence side," Fetzer said.

Next up, the distance medley relays will be highlighted at the UCS Invitational Feb. 20 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
