BOSTON—The Virginia women’s track and field team completed action on the second day of the ACC Indoor Championships Friday (Feb. 26) at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.

Sophomore Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) finished fourth in the pole vault with a school-record height of 4.17m (13’ 8.25”).

“Bridget competed with great intensity and focus today,” UVA assistant coach Mario Wilson said. “This is the third-consecutive ACC Championship meet (indoor and outdoor) that she has broken the school record. A tremendous feat and a great indicator for things to come.

In the 60 meters, senior Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) won her heat in a time of 7.46 to qualify for the finals. Her time of 7.46 ranks fourth on UVA’s all-time list, while junior Tori McKenzie’s (Chatham, Va.) time of 7.54 (11th overall) ranks tied for seventh.

Chaney also qualified for the final in the 200 meters after finishing first in her heat in a time of 24.14. She will be seeded sixth in the final on Saturday.

“Our women took advantages of the opportunities given to them, highlighted by Peyton (Chaney) qualifying for two finals and Bridget Guy breaking the school record in the pole vault,” Virginia director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said.

Graduate student Iona Lake (Norwich, England) qualified for the mile by way of a second-place finish in her heat in 4:42.91, just off her personal-best time.

Junior Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) finished 14th in the 60 hurdles in a time of 8.54, which ranks second on UVA’s all-time list.

In the 5,000 meters, junior Cleo Boyd (Kingston, Ontario) was 12th in 16:41.78.

After two days, the Cavaliers sit in 12th with six points. Florida State leads with 40 points, followed by Duke (38) and North Carolina (32.5).

The meet concludes Saturday (Feb. 27) with action set to begin at 11 a.m. ESPN3 will have a live broadcast from 1-4 p.m.
