March 27, 2015

RICHMOND, Va. - The Virginia men's and women's track & field teams had a strong day of competition Friday at the Fred Hardy Invitational at the University of Richmond. The Cavaliers sent nine athletes to compete at the meet and won three events.

"In some difficult conditions, we had a lot of strong mental performances," said assistant coach Willie Randolph. "For the hurdlers, to run the times they did in 40-degree weather was good. The throwers and jumpers also had a lot of good performances. It was great to see everyone ready to compete, no matter the conditions."

Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) won the women's shot put for the second straight meet, taking the title with a meet-record mark of 14.57m. Anthony Bouselli (Hawley, Pa.) won the men's javelin competition with a mark of 55.44m, the fourth-best freshman mark in school history. Chris Rogers (Midlothian, Va.) won the men's triple jump with a mark 14.37m.

James Williams (Radford, Va.) had a pair of PRs, posting a mark of 41.43m in the hammer throw and a mark of 14.86m in the shot put. Carter Green (Ashland, Pa.) had a PR of 34.40m in the women's hammer throw.

Holly Sullivan (Chester Springs, Pa.) finished third in the women's 400m hurdles, crossing in a PR of 1:04.67. In the men's 400m hurdles, Devin Brewer (Dumfries, Va.) was third in a season-best time of 54.16, while David Bartha (Bonyhad, Hungary) was 10th in a time of 56.04.

The full men's and women's teams will travel to California next week for the annual tri-meet with Cal and Michigan on April 4 in Berkeley. The night before, Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.) will be competing in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational.
