AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 6 UVA men's track and field team continued its strong opening to the outdoor season with several top finishes in the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Freshman Jordan Scott (Portmore, Jamaica) broke a 45-year old Virginia first-year triple jump record set by Keith Witherspoon in 1972. Scott established a new standard with a jump of 16.01 meters (52-6.5). He finished third overall with a mark of 16.34 meters (53-7.5).

Scott's distance ranks him first nationally for the triple jump, according to the rankings leading into this weekend's competitions.

Junior Aaron Worrell (Auckland, New Zealand) finished second in section B of the men's triple jump. His best jump reached a distance of 15.57 meters (51-1).

"The horizontal jumpers emphasized the triple jump this weekend and the overall results were good," said assistant coach Mario Wilson. "Jordan Scott competed well in a stacked field. Aaron Worrell had a good opening mark for his outdoor campaign."

Earlier in the day, released its national rankings and the Cavaliers figured No. 5 for its listing of projected outdoor finishes.

UVA will conclude competition at the Texas Relays tomorrow with redshirted sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) competing in the shot put.
