CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--The Virginia women's track and field team won five events Saturday (April 9) at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson at Lannigan Field.

Senior Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) captured the 100 meters in 11.77, while fellow senior Jessica Caldwell (Owings Mills, Md.) placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 12.02m (39' 5.25").

"It was great to have Peyton and Jessica win at home," UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. "They were a part of our first recruiting class and for both to have victories on their home track is awesome."

In the discus, sophomore Carter Green (Ashland, Pa.) finished second with a personal-best throw of 50.15m (164' 6"), which ranks seventh on UVA's all-time list.

"We had a great weekend in the throws all weekend long, with PRs up and down the board," Fetzer said. "What is even better is that they all hold each other accountable and continue to grow collectively. Weekends like this show why Virginia is a premier destination for throwing."

Junior Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) won the 100m hurdles in 14.06, while freshman Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) was second in 14.24. Junior Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.) crossed the line first in the 200 meters in 24.21.

Sophomore Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.) won the pole vault with a height of 3.65m (11' 11.75").

The Cavaliers return to action when they host the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field April 22-23. Admission is free to the public.
