CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia women's track and field team concluded an impressive showing at the Virginia Challenge during the second day of the meet at Lannigan Field. Competing against athletes from 35 schools, the Cavaliers set three school records at the meet, including a UVa record for Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) in the shot put to highlight Saturday's action.

"Across the board, we continue to get better," said head coach Bryan Fetzer. "Christine Bohan had a phenomenal performance in the shot put. Overall, the women's team continues to improve on things. This meet did a great job of setting us up for even better performances once we get to the championship season."

Bohan had a mark of 16.31m (53-6.25) to finish third in the shot put against an elite field at the meet. She had entered the meet ranked second all-time at Virginia in the event, but improved her PR by over a foot to set a new record.

Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) ran a PR of 23.62 in the women's 200m, moving her into fifth place in school history. Another Cavalier moving into the top-five of school history was Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.), who is fifth all-time in the javelin with a mark of 154-8.

Sarah Fakler (Phoenix, Ariz.) moved up to seventh all-time at Virginia in the 5000m with a PR of 16:18.59.

Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) ran a PR of 1:00.37 in the 400m hurdles, almost cracking the Virginia all-time top 10 list.

The day began with Kendall Cowne (Chantilly, Va.) setting a PR in the morning section of 3000m steeplechase, winning in a time of 10:54.10.

"It was an awesome atmosphere and the crowd gave all the athletes a lot of support," said Fetzer. "It definitely showed how popular running and this sport is in the Charlottesville community. In return, the fans were treated to a lot of NCAA top-10 performances and facility records. It is a sign of things to come with this meet as it continues to grow into one of the best meets in the country."

The Cavaliers return to action next week as they travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays.
