Woodley Sets School Record at Virginia Grand Prix

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia women's track and field team concluded its last home meet of the outdoor season, Virginia Grand Prix, on Saturday (April 28) at Lannigan Field with a school record in the 100m hurdles from sophomore Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.).

Woodley recorded a time of 13.31 to finish first in the 100m hurdles. She was followed by junior Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.), who placed second in the event with a career-best time of 13.35.


 

 

"Some significant progress has been made over the last two weeks in a number of areas," director of track and field Bryan Fetzer said. "We look to keep that momentum going forward"

The Cavaliers recorded a 1-2 finish in the 400m hurdles as junior Alana Herran (Orange, N.J.) ran a time of 58.03 for the top performance in the event and sophomore Andrenette Knight (Morant Bay, Jamaica) finished second with a time of 59.12. Herran's time ranks fifth in school history and is the 12th-best performance in the East Region. Knight's performance ranks 10th on UVA's all-time list and is tied for 24th in the region.  

In the triple jump, junior Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) posted a mark of 13.28m (43'7"). She finished second in the event and was the top collegiate athlete of the night. The wind assisted performance ranks fifth in the East Region. McKee tied her previous career-best jump of 13.17m (43'2.5") with a legal wind on her final attempt of the night.

Redshirt junior Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) and freshman Khyasia Caldwell-Adams (Pocono Summit, Pa.) recorded season-best jumps in the long jump. Barron posted a wind-assisted jump of 6.21m (20'4.5") tying for the 18th-best performance in the East Region, while Caldwell-Adams recorded a distance of 6.19m (20'3.75"), wind assisted, tying for 22nd in the region.

Sophomore Anna Jefferson (Warren, Mich.) posted a personal-best time of 23.94 in the 200m dash, capturing the 10th-best time in UVA history in the event. She finished third in the meet.

With a career-best throw, junior Jade Baker (North Richland Hills, Texas) finished fourth in the hammer throw. She recorded a throw of 57.07m (187'3"), topping her previous best mark by more than 11 feet.

In the high jump, junior Carly Feyerabend (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished second in the event with a season-best performance of 1.68m (5'6").

Redshirt junior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) won her fourth pole vaulting event this season, leading the field with a height of 4.20m (13'9.25").

In the first 3000m steeplechase of her college career, freshman Kiera Bothwell (Springfield, Va.) placed second in the event with a time of 11.19.19.

Senior Carter Green (Ashland, Pa.) posted a season-best throw in the discus, recording a mark of 49.07m (161'0") for third place.

"Any time we have the opportunity to compete at Lannigan Field it is awesome," Fetzer said. "It was a beautiful day for our student-athletes that are finishing up their careers with a final competition."

Virginia will return to action on May 10th for the ACC Championships. The three-day meet will be held in Coral Gables, Fla.
