MIAMI - Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) cleared 4.45m (14'7.25") to claim the first ACC women's pole vault championship in school history and lead Virginia women's track and field to a fifth-place tally of 13 points after day one of the ACC Outdoor Championships.

Guy's mark was one centimeter off her personal best and school record of 4.46m. The redshirt-junior edged out Lisa Gunnarsson of Virginia Tech by clearing her first attempt at the winning mark.

"Some time ago Bridget expressed her desire to someday be an ACC champion," assistant coach Mario Wilson said. "Tonight, she produced the best performance against an incredibly competitive field. I am very proud of what she was able to accomplish because winning an ACC Championship is extremely difficult."

In the 10000m, Emily Mulhern (Ijamsville, Md.) scored with a seventh-place finish for the Cavaliers. Mulhern crossed in a time of 35:25.11 to earn two points for Virginia.

Carly Feyerabend (Mechanicsville, Va.) also scored for Virginia in the high jump. The junior topped 1.64m (5'4.5") to finish in a tie for sixth in the competition.

Andrenette Knight (Morant Bay, Jamaica) posted a personal best of 58.55 in the 400m hurdles to finish second in her heat and qualify for the event finals on Saturday (May 12). The mark puts Knight as the eighth-fastest Cavalier in the outdoor record book.

Sophomore Emma Call set a new personal best with a time of 4:28.61 in the women's 1500m.

In the heptathlon, Holly Sullivan (Chester Springs, Pa.) opened with a personal-best 14.25 in the 100m hurdles to take the first heat. She followed with an outdoor personal best of 1.64m (5'4.5") in the high jump. Sullivan ended the day in fifth with 3,091 points through the first four events.

Virginia returns to action in the second day of competition at the ACC Championships. Events begin at noon on Friday (May 11).
