TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—The Virginia women’s track and field team sits in second place after the second day of the ACC Outdoor Championships Saturday (May 14) at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Cavaliers are in second with 36 points, behind Florida State, who leads with 58. Louisville is third with 31 points, followed by Virginia Tech (29.1) and Duke (25).

Graduate student Iona Lake (Norwich, England) earned All-ACC honors by placing third in the 3,000m steeplechase in a time of 10:09.99.

“Iona competed hard and scored some big team points for us,” UVA distance coach Todd Morgan said. “This was a positive step forward from the Virginia Challenge.”

Junior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) earned All-ACC honors in the shot put, placing third with a throw of 15.23m (49’ 11.75”). Bohan and junior Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.) took home second-team All-ACC accolades in the javelin throw, with Bohan finishing fourth with a mark of 47.70m (156’ 6”), which ranks fifth on UVA’s all-time list. Mautz was sixth with a throw of 43.31m (142’ 1”).

"The day started and ended the way it needed to for us," UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. "Christine and Cailtin put up some pivotal points in the morning and Iona is finally back to her fitness from the indoor season. We have a lot of points on the table tomorrow, we just need to execute."

In the prelims of the 100m hurdles, freshman Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) placed 10th in 13.67, which is a new program freshman record and second on UVA’s all-time list.

Redshirt freshman Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) qualified for the long jump finals and placed ninth with a mark of 5.94m (19’ 6”).

In the heptathlon, freshman Alana Herran (Orange, N.J.) notched personal records in six of the seven events to finish 10th with 4,771 points, which ranks fourth on UVA’s all-time freshman list.
