TAMPA, Fla.- The Virginia women's track and field team concluded the second day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds at the USF Track and Field Stadium with two competitors advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. 



Redshirt junior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) was the first Cavalier in program history to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships in the pole vault. Guy was one of 12 performers to clear a height of 4.18m (13'8.5) and advance to the national meet.

Sophomore Andrenette Knight (Morant Bay, Jamaica) qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400m hurdles, capturing a time of 56.94 in the event. Her career-best time was the fourth-fastest of the day and ranks third in school history. 

Adding to the day's performance, junior Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) advanced to tomorrow's quarterfinal round in the 100m hurdles with a second-place finish in her heat. Leonard's time of 13.26 set a UVA record and ranks 20th in the competition.

Senior Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.) finished 28th in the pole vault after clearing a height of 3.93m (12'10.75).

Sophomore Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.) ran a time of 13.39 in the 100m hurdles, finishing 29th in the event.

In the discus, senior Carter Green (Ashland, Pa.) threw a mark of 46.62m (152'11"). She placed 39th in the event.

The NCAA East Preliminary Rounds serve as the qualifier for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. The top-12 finishers from each event will advance to the national meet.  

The Cavaliers will conclude the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds tomorrow. The meet will begin at 8:45 a.m. with Virginia competing in its first event at 12:30 p.m.
