NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Virginia men's cross country team placed eighth at the blue race of the Notre Dame Invitational Friday at the Notre Dame Golf Course. The No. 24 Cavaliers finished with 279 points as they took on an elite field of 27 teams, including nine ranked in the top 30 nationally.

Columbia won the race with 113 points. The Lions were followed by Tulsa (124), Princeton (147), Minnesota (155), Colorado State (189), New Mexico (202), Notre Dame (236) and the Cavaliers (279).

Redshirt-freshman Adam Visokay (Ruckersville, Va.) was Virginia's top finisher, crossing in 19th place in a time of 24:50.4. Junior Drew Paisley (Virginia Beach, Va.) was 38th, followed by sophomore Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.), who overcame losing a shoe early in the race to finish 47th. Senior Thomas Porter (Fredericksburg, Va.) was 70th and sophomore Jack St. Marie (Westlake, Ohio) was 105th to round out the scoring five for the Cavaliers.

"Adam Visokay stepped up and ran very well today," said men's cross country coach Pete Watson. "Drew Paisley also ran really well and Kyle King lost his shoe just before the mile, but toughed it out."

The Virginia men do not compete again until the ACC Championships on Nov. 1 in Kernersville, N.C. The women return to action on Oct. 19 at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
