MADISON, Wis.—The No. 7 Virginia men’s cross country team placed fourth at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational Friday (Oct. 16) at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis.

The Cavaliers finished ahead of 11 nationally-ranked teams on their way to a fourth-place finish with 238 points. Syracuse was first with 101, followed by BYU (186) and Michigan (218). UVA placed ahead of top-5 teams No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 Iona.

"I’m pleased with the result,” head UVA men’s cross country coach Pete Watson said. “Henry Wynne ran a very strong race and finishing top 10 in this field shows he has become one of the top all-around runners in the NCAA. As a team to finish fourth in this meet is a big step as we head toward the championship season. We know we have a lot of room for improvement and we need to have everyone hit it on the same day to do special things.”

Junior Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) was the top finisher for Virginia, finishing ninth in a time of 23:44.7. Sophomore Chase Weaverling (Darnestown, Md.) and junior Adam Visokay (Ruckersville, Va.) finished 41st (24:06.8) and 42nd (24:07.2), while sophomore Brent Demarest (Charleston, S.C.) and senior Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.) rounded out the scoring five in 69th and 77th.

"I am very pleased with both genders,” UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “We competed well today against an incredible field. The best part is we didn't fire on all cylinders and still produced at that level. We are really excited going into ACC's in two weeks."

The Cavaliers return to action Oct. 30 for the ACC Championships in Tallahassee, Fla.
