Cavaliers Place Eighth at ACC Championships

Louisville, Ky.–
  The Virginia women’s cross country team finished eighth at the ACC Cross Country Championships with 182 points on Fri. (Oct. 27) in Louisville, Ky., at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

No. 5 NC State reclaimed the conference title, finishing first with 43 points. Louisville finished second with 109 points, while Virginia Tech finished third with 129 points.

“Great runs by Frances and Beth today,” head coach Todd Morgan said. “I am really proud of the improvement this year from Beth. We need to refocus as a group for the region meet.”

Senior Frances Schmiede (Sydney, Australia) and graduate student Beth Hawling (Cheltenham, Great Britain) paced the team, earning All-ACC honors. Schmiede finished eighth with a time of 20:13.8, while Hawling finished ninth with a time of 20:19.9.

Freshman Hannah Moran (Salem, Va.) recorded a time of 21:24.7 for 45th place. Sophomore Emma Call (Richmond, Va.) and freshman Kiera Bothwell (Springfield, Va.) rounded out the scoring runs, finishing 48th and 80th, respectively. Call recorded a time of 21:30.4, while Bothwell recorded a time of 22:04.9.
