Cavalier Women Place 10th at ACC Championships

CARY, N.C.—The Virginia women’s cross country team placed 10th at the ACC Championships Friday (Oct. 28) at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The Cavaliers finished with 220 points to finish 10th. Host NC State captured the team title with 53 points, followed by Notre Dame (74), Virginia Tech (153), Louisville (157), Syracuse (184), Clemson (207), Pitt (207), Wake Forest (207) and Florida State (213).

Sophomore Emily Mulhern (Ijamsville, Md.) placed 21st overall in 20:42.2 to earn All-ACC honors. Graduate student Sarah Astin (Isle of Man, Great Britain) was next in 31st place, while fellow graduate student Beth Hawling (Cheltenham, Great Britain) was 41st. Freshman Emma Call (Richmond, Va.) finished 62nd and junior Megan Rebholz (Stafford, Va.) was 75th to round out the scoring five.

The meet signified the men’s and women’s cross country matchups between Virginia and Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Clash, sponsored by Virginia529, the official college savings plan of University of Virginia athletics. Each school picked up one point based on today’s results. The score of the Clash is currently University of Virginia – 2.5 and Virginia Tech – 2. The Cavaliers will return to action in two weeks when they host the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships Nov. 11 at Panorama Farms in Earlysville.
