TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Virginia women's cross country team concluded the season by finishing 15th at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. It was the team's third top-15 finish in the past six years.

The Cavaliers scored 433 points, the highest finisher from the NCAA Southeast Region and the second-highest ACC squad, behind Florida State (12th place).

Graduate student Morgan Kelly (San Francisco, Calif.) was one place away from earning All-American honors, crossing in 41st place in a time of 20:46.5. Fellow graduate students Iona Lake (Norwich, England) and Kathleen Stevens (Blacksburg, Va.) followed in 102nd place and 109th place, respectively. Junior Cleo Boyd (Kingston, Ontario) was 144th and sophomore Sara Sargent (Philadelphia, Pa.) rounded out the Virginia scoring five in 168th place.

"I was really happy how the group stuck with things today and finished in the top 15, even though we knew things weren't firing on all cylinders," said women's head coach Todd Morgan. "We had several step in and pick up some slack, and others that had to grind out a tough day for the team. Our goal as a program is to start showing consistency and I think we did that today. Every year presents new obstacles put in front of a team and this team overcame several to have a good year."
