LEXINGTON, Ky.—The Virginia women’s track and field team finished action at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet Saturday (Jan. 23) at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky.

Graduate student Iona Lake (Norwich, England) finished second in the 3,000 meters in a time of 9:27.63, while sophomore Megan Rebholz (Stafford, Va.) placed sixth in 9:37.68.

In the shot put, junior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished third with a throw of 15.91m (52’ 2.5”) in her final attempt.

Graduate student Sarah Astin (Isle of Man, Great Britain) led four Cavaliers to top-seven finishes, placing third in 4:46.31. Rebholz was fifth (4:53.07), while freshmen Alexia Roux (Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland) and Bonnie Angermeier (Blacksburg, Va.) placed sixth and seventh, respectively.

“The overall group continues to improve and learn,” Virginia director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “Our distance crew put together some solid performances doubling back on day two and Christine (Bohan) opened up almost a meter further than last year’s season opener. We can take away a lot from this competition in a positive manner.”

In the 800 meters, sophomore Caroline Clark (Washington, D.C.) finished ninth in 2:13.08, while Roux was 11th and Angermeier was 15th.

Senior Jessica Caldwell (Owings Mill, Md.) placed 10th in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.96m (39’ 3”).

Junior Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.) tied her personal best in the 60 meters, finishing 16th in 7.60. Fellow junior Heather Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) posted a personal-best mark in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 17th in 8.71, which ranks seventh on UVA’s all-time list. In the 400 meters, junior Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.) finished 16th in 57.54.

In the final event of the meet, the 4x400m relay of Smith, Wright, senior Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) and junior Chimere Ezumah (Gardena, Calif.) placed 10th in 3:45.71.

The Cavaliers return to action Friday (Jan. 29) for the John Thomas Terrier Invitational in Boston.
