BOSTON, Mass.—The Virginia women’s track and field team concluded action at the Crimson Elite Meet Friday (Feb. 3) at the Gordon Indoor Track in Boston.

Sophomore Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) finished fifth in the 60m hurdles in a personal-record time of 8.46, which ranks second in school history. She clocked a then-personal-record time of 8.49 in the prelims.

In the pole vault, junior Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.) placed second, clearing a season-best height of 3.80m (12’ 5.5”). Freshman Tedi DeMaria (Feura Bush, N.Y.) was seventh after clearing a height of 3.55m (11’ 7.75”).

Sophomore Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) placed fourth in the long jump with a PR of 5.92m (19’ 5.25”), while redshirt sophomore Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) was eighth with a mark of 5.65m (18’ 6.5”).

“Ciara, Katie and Kelly all made some key improvements,” UVA director of track and field Bryan Fetzer said. “It is fun as a coach to see individuals gain confidence through performance. Each will continue to build on what they did today this season.”

Senior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 15.40m (50’ 6.25”)

In the 60-meter final, senior Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.) finished seventh in 7.68 after running a 7.67 in the prelims.

“We are using this weekend as a trial run for ACCs in most of the cases with having to compete two days in a row,” Fetzer said. “It is great to have two facilities and competitions literally miles apart.”

Across town at the first night of the Scarlett & White Meet at the BU Track and Tennis Center, the distance medley relay team of freshman Emma Call (Richmond, Va.), seniors Chimere Ezumah (Gardena, Calif.) and Micah Brickhill (Buckingham, Va.) and freshman Georgie Mackenzie (Leesburg, Va.) finished third in 11:30.28.

“I am really proud of those ladies,” Fetzer said. “They all put together great individual races.”

The Scarlett & White Meet concludes Saturday (Feb. 4) with action starting at 11 a.m.
