CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia men's and women's track and field teams will split up to compete at a pair of events this weekend. A majority of the team will be in action at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier on Saturday, while six athletes will be in competing at Notre Dame at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The events are the final chance to qualify for next week's NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas.

The Cavaliers are coming off seventh place finishes by both the men and women at last week's ACC Championships in Blacksburg.

Virginia will send 25 athletes (14 women and 11 men) to Blacksburg for this week's Virginia Tech Final Qualifier. The Cavalier men's distance medley relay, women's miler Vicky Fouhy, and women's 400m runner Jordan Lavender will travel to Notre Dame to take on an elite field at the Alex Wilson Invitational.

The Top 16 performers in each individual event and the Top 12 relay teams in both the 4x400-meter relay and distance medley relay that declare for entry in the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will compete next week in Fayetteville, Ark., for a national championship.
