Cavaliers Complete Last Chance Events

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia track and field team completed its final day of competition before next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships at Notre Dame’s Alex Wilson Invitational and Virginia Tech’s Last Chance meet on Saturday.

At the Alex Wilson Invitational, sophomore Andrew Lobb and freshman Morgane Gay raced the 800m, with Lobb crossing the line in his personal-best time of 1:51.32 the fastest of any Cavalier this season. Gay finished in 2:10.20.

Junior Steve Finley also competed at the invitational, completed the mile run in 4:06.45 the program’s all-time eighth fastest performance.

At the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet, freshman Alex Bowman and senior Kevin Tschirhart finished second and third, respectively, in the mile. Bowman finished in 4:11.60, while Tschirhart turned in a time of 4:12.53.

Sophomore Adams Abdulrazaaq advanced out of the preliminary round of the 60m hurdles, finishing ninth in 8.19, before taking ninth in the semifinals in 8.11.

Senior Yemi Ayeni threw 58’ 5.25” in the shot put to finish fourth and sophomore Greg Nelson cleared 6’ 8.25” in the high jump, finishing fifth.

The Cavaliers will send at least their men’s distance medley relay team to the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend in College Station, Texas. Events begin on Friday, March 13 and conclude Saturday, March 14. The list of accepted entries into the national championships will be released Monday evening.
