Charlottesville, Va. -- Five student-athletes from the No. 18 Virginia men's track and field team will begin competition at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday (March 10). The two-day event is taking place in College Station, Texas at Texas A&M's Gilliam Track Stadium.

Qualifying for this year's championship are redshirt junior Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and junior Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the shot put, freshman Jordan Scott (Portmore, Jamaica) in the triple jump, senior Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.) in the 5,000 meters and senior Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) in the weight throw.

Mihaljevic and Efekoro will be the first to compete starting at 8:20 p.m. ET in the shot put trials. Mihaljevic, the three-time ACC Champion is the No. 3 seed in the shot put with a season-best throw of 19.97 meters. He was the runner-up at last year's NCAA Indoors, throwing 20.47m in his final attempt. He won the NCAA Outdoor shot put title in 2016. Efekoro is seeded 13th at 19.17 meters and placed third at the ACC Indoor Championships (19.13m).

Herriott's 5,000-meter race is slated to start at 9:20 p.m. ET on Friday. He is seeded No. 10 in the 16-man field with a time of 13:45.37. Making his first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, he set the UVA record in the 5,000m this season with a time of 13:45.37.

Young and Scott, who both won ACC titles this year in their respective events, will compete on Saturday.

Young is the No. 6 seed in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 22.91 meters. In 2015, he earned first-team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the weight throw at the NCAA Championships. He also competed in the event in 2014 as a freshman at Arizona. The weight throw gets underway Saturday at 3 p.m. ET with trials and finals.

Scott's top long jump mark of 16.36 meters landed him the No. 6 seed in the event. He is the third-highest seeded freshman competing. The men's triple jump will take place Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.

Last year Virginia tied for eighth place at the NCAA Indoors, the best finish in program history. The Cavaliers accumulated 18 points at the event.

ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 10 starting at 6:25 p.m. Eastern time and March 11 starting at 4:55 p.m. Eastern time. A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 12 starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time on ESPN2.
