Virginia is set to open the 2017 outdoor track and field season this weekend with a split-squad performance. The season starts with the Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 24, before the bulk of the team competes at the Hurricane Twilight in Miami, Fla., on Saturday, March 25.

The Cavaliers enter the season as the sixth-ranked team on the men's side according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll. UVA ended the 2016 season ranked seventh nationally.

The Raleigh Relays are set to begin at 9:45 a.m. The action will be streamed on ACC Network Extra and will featurelive results. Saturday's competition at Miami will begin at 10 a.m., and will also be featured on ACC Network Extra.

The team returns junior Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and senior Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) as standouts on the 2017 roster. Both athletes secured first-team All-America honors last season, finishing inside the top-8 nationally in their events. Mihaljevic earned the program's first NCAA field title, taking home the NCAA championship in the men's shot put. He also claimed fifth in the discus. Wynne added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters to help elevate the Cavaliers in the team standings.

Adding to the roster, senior Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) and sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed 2016 second-team All-America honors for the men while senior Cleo Boyd (Kingston, Ontario) boasted the honor for the women's team.

UVA will compete at the Texas Relays, March 30, before returning home to host three meets during the month of April.
