Cavaliers to Compete at Raleigh Relays

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia track and field team will head to Raleigh, N.C., to compete in the Raleigh Relays this weekend. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., on Friday and conclude with the 4x400m relay at 5 p.m., on Saturday. Live results can be found on VirginiaSports.com.

Four Cavaliers have already qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships after last weekend’s outdoor season opener. Seniors Caitlin Kelly and Billie-Jo Grant hit the qualifying standard in the discus, while sophomore Emil Heineking and senior Kevin Tschirhart met the mark in the 1500m.

Kelly was victorious in the discus, throwing a personal-best 163’ 8” and tying the sixth-best mark on the program’s top-10 list. Grant finished runner-up in the event with a toss of 161’ 3”.

In the men’s 1500m, Heineking won top honors, completing the race in 3:46.62, while Tschirhart finished second in 3:47.38.

The Cavaliers will head to Columbus, Mo., next weekend for a scored meet - the Missouri Jefferson Dual - on April 3-4.
