CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia men's and women's track & field teams will return to action this week with a tri-meet against California and Michigan in Berkeley, Calif. The hammer throw competitions will be held on Friday evening, beginning at 4:30 p.m. PT, while the rest of the meet will be Saturday at Edwards Stadium on Cal's campus, with events beginning at 11:30 a.m. PT.

Live scoring of the meet will be available at

This year marks the third installment of the meet, which features the nation's top public universities. The Cal men and Michigan women have won the meet in each of the past two years, last year in Charlottesville and two years ago in Berkeley.

The 20th-ranked Cavalier men will square off against the No. 24 Wolverines and the host Golden Bears, while the Cavalier women face the No. 17 Michigan along with Cal.

Virginia has four athletes currently ranked top-20 nationally in an event, headlined by Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) who is in the top 20 of two events. He is 14th in the men's shot put and 15th in the men's discus. Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is ranked fourth nationally in the men's discus, giving the Cavaliers two of the top 15 in that event. On the women's side, Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) is 11th in the shot put and Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) is 16th in the 100m.

While the majority of the Cavaliers compete in Berkeley this week, Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.) will also be in action in the Bay Area. He will run the 10000m on Friday night at the Stanford Invitational.

Following the meet, the Cavaliers will have two weeks to prepare for the Virginia Challenge, held April 17-18 at Lannigan Field.
