CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
Junior Marcus Robinson leaped a personal-best 51’ 0.25” in the triple jump to open up his 2010 outdoor track and field season and finish second in his heat at the Texas Relays, while freshman Dallas Rose won her section of the women’s triple jump with a mark of 41’ 7.75”. Rose’s distance broke UVa’s all-time freshman record in the event, bettering Atalaya Jones’ mark of 40’ 11.75” from 1993, and was the fourth-best mark in program history.
The rest of the Cavaliers competed at the 45th annual Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., where junior Adams Abdulrazaaq tied his personal-best in the 110m hurdles, finishing second in 14.16.
Junior Chidi Uche earned a pair of top-eight finishes herself, while Virginia picked up a pair of top-five finishes in the men’s 800m and 3000m steeplechase events at William & Mary. Uche finished sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.15 and claimed fourth in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 1:01.16, while in the steeplechase, senior Steve Finley finished third in 8:59.64 and redshirt junior Andrew Mearns took fifth in 9:03.34.
In the 800m, sophomore All-American Lance Roller took third in 1:50.42 and freshman Zach Vrhovac ran his collegiate-best time of 1:50.64 for fourth.
On the women’s side, redshirt junior Ariane Sloan finished eighth in the 800m with a personal-best time of 2:11.05 and senior Samantha Stafford was third in the steeplechase. Stafford finished with a time of 10:53.20.
In the 200m, freshman Danielle Williams finished seventh in 25.06, while sophomore Meagan Gillespie took seventh in the 400m, completing the one lap race in a time of 56.43.
Wrapping up events on the track, sophomore All-American Sintayehu Taye finished seventh in the 1500m. Taye finished in 3:48.31.
In field events, senior LeAndre Sherrill finished sixth with a personal-best leap of 22’ 11.25” in the triple jump. Freshman Matthew Armentrout also had a personal-best, clearing 14’ 9” for sixth in the pole vault.
The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow to conclude the Colonial Relays, while senior All-American Meghan Briggs will compete in the javelin at the Texas Relays.
