Jesien Named ACC Performer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C.  Senior Andrew Jesien has been named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Performer of the Week for this outdoor season, as announced today by the conference office.

A senior from Bethesda, Md., Jesien finished first in the mile last week at the Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational with a time of 4:02.18. With the time converted to a 1500m time, Jesien’s time of 3:43.51 would rank first in the league and sixth nationally.

Jesien led a trio of Cavaliers across the line in the mile within three seconds of each other at the Lou Onesty Invite. Sophomore All-American Emil Heinkeing finished runner-up in 4:04.80 and freshman All-American Sintayehu Taye claimed third in 4:05.38 all NCAA regional qualifying times.

The weekly honor is the first for Jesien.

The reigning ACC Champion in the 1500m, Jesien and the Cavaliers will head to the University of Miami to compete in the 2009 ACC Championships this Thursday-Saturday.
