CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia men’s and the Cavalier women’s track and field teams qualified 24 student athletes, 17 men and seven women, for the NCAA East Regional Qualifier Meet. The competition will be held May 25-27 at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky.

Each individual event (excluding the heptathlon and decathlon) will have 48 competitors, while relays will have 24 teams. The top 12 from every event will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 7-10.

Four Cavaliers will have an opportunity for a return trip to Eugene for the NCAA Championships, after advancing from the East Regional Qualifying meet last year. Redshirt junior Filip Mihaljevic (Linvo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and redshirt sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) are seeded first and second, respectively, in the East Region shot put. Senior Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) is seeded seventh in the 1500m, while senior Jordan Young (Windsor, Ont.) is seeded 13th in the discus.
