EUGENE, Ore. - Four members of the Virginia track and field program will compete this week at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Graduate student Mark Amirault and juniors Abbey Karin, Thomas Porter and Barbara Strehler will represent the Cavaliers at the meet, which runs Wednesday-Saturday at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Virginia will have one athlete competing during each day of the four-day meet.

On Wednesday, Karin will compete in the women's javelin (8:15 p.m. ET) as she makes her first appearance at the NCAA Championships. She threw 47.60m (156'2") at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds to qualify for the NCAA meet.

Porter will take to the track on Thursday in the men's 10000m (10:15 p.m. ET). He advanced to the meet by finishing seventh in the event at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. He is making his first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, having also run at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Another Cavalier making her NCAA Track & Field Championships debut is Strehler, who will run the women's 5000m on Friday (9:15 p.m. ET). She ran the fourth best-time in school history, 16:07.70, at the NCAA East Preliminary Round to advance to Eugene. She has competed in two NCAA Cross Country Championships, in 2010 and 2011.

It is his first NCAA Track & Field Championship appearance as a Cavalier, and second overall, having earned second-team All-America honors in the 5000m at Princeton in 2011.
