CHARLOTTESVILLE -

The Virginia cross country teams announced their 2013 schedules Tuesday (June 11). The Cavaliers will host three meets at Panorama Farms, including the NCAA Southeast Regional for the first time.

“I think it is a great schedule to prepare us for the end of the year,” said women’s cross country head coach Todd Morgan. “We will get to see the NCAA course in October, host a great meet to start the season and host the regional meet for the first time ever. Everyone is excited to compete.”

The men’s and women’s programs will host a pair of meets to start the season. The teams debut on Aug. 30 with the UVa Duals. They return to Panorama Farms on Sept. 28 to host the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational.

In October, the men and women split up, competing in different events. The men will run on Oct. 4 at the Notre Dame Invitational. The women compete on Oct. 19 at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.

“We set up the schedule so we could do some things early,” said men’s cross country head coach Pete Watson. “It allows us to then go back to training in the middle of the season to prepare for the most important part of the year, the ACC and NCAA meets. We are going to go some places we haven’t been before and let the boys see some different competition. The goal is to be ready to go when it matters for the ACC meet at Wake Forest and when we host the NCAA Regionals.”

The 2013 ACC Championships will be held on Nov. 1 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

For the first time, Virginia will host the NCAA Southeast Regional at Panorama Farms. The meet is scheduled for Nov. 15 and is one of nine regional meets to determine the field for the NCAA Championships. The NCAA Championships will be held Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.

“We are thrilled and honored with the opportunity to host the NCAA Regional," said director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer. "It is a chance for the region to see how picturesque Panorama Farms is as a facility and why we are proud to call it home."
