Four Cavaliers Named USTFCCCA First-Team All-America

 The Virginia men's and women's track and field teams had seven student-athletes earn outdoor All-America honors as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday (June 12). Seniors Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Jordan Young (Windsor, Ont.), redshirt sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Hilmar Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) earned first-team honors for their performance at the 2017 Outdoor NCAA Championships.

Mihaljevic was a two-time NCAA champion, winning the shot put and the discus. He set a school record in both events, in addition to breaking the ACC record in the shot put. Mihaljevic recorded a mark of 21.30m (69-10.75) in the shot put and a mark of 63.76m (209-2) in the discus. 

Virginia had two fourth-place finishes at the meet. Efekoro finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 19.70m (64-7.75), after entering as the 20th seed in the event. Jonsson recorded a personal-best performance of 72.38m (237-5) in the hammer. Both student-athletes earned first-team honors in their respective events. 



Young finished the week with a first-team and a second-team All-America honor. He placed third in the discus with a season-best of 61.94m (203-2) for first team, in addition to finishing ninth in the hammer with an effort of 69.71m (228-8). He placed second-team All-American in the hammer. 

Senior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) earned second-team All-America honors in the shot put. Her season-best performance of 16.59m (54-5.25) placed her 11th overall.

Redshirt sophomore Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) and freshman Jordan Scott (Portmore Jamaica) placed on the honorable mentions team for the decathlon and triple jump, respectively.
