NEW ORLEANS, La.—Six Virginia student-athletes were honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their efforts at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the USTFCCCA announced Monday (June 13).

Juniors Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) earned first-team All-America honors for placing top-8 in their respective events. Mihaljevic won the NCAA title in the men’s shot put, becoming the first Cavalier to win an NCAA field-event title. Mihaljevic also placed fifth in the discus. Wynne, the 2016 NCAA champion in the indoor mile, placed third in the men’s 1,500 meters. Mihaljevic and Wynne’s performances vaulted the Cavalier men to a seventh-place team finish, the program’s best-ever NCAA finish.

Three Cavaliers, juniors Cleo Boyd (Kingston, Ontario) and Jordan Young (Windsor, Ontario) and redshirt-freshman Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all earned second-team All-America honors. Boyd finished ninth in the women’s 10,000 meters, while Young placed 12th in the men’s discus. Efekoro competed in the men’s shot put and finished ninth.

Graduate student William Gray earned honorable mention All-America honors after placing 18th in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
