Cavaliers to Compete in International Track & Field Events

CHARLOTTESVILLE - Student-athletes and coaches of the Virginia track & field programs will be in action this summer, competing in several international events around the world.

Two Cavaliers will be in action this week at the United States Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Rising senior Abbey Karin will compete in the women's javelin competition, while incoming first-year Ana Holland will run the 100m and 200m at the USATF Junior Championships.

Rising senior Anna Finger returns to her native Germany this month for the German U-23 Championships, where she will compete in the 100m hurdles and long jump.

Incoming first-year David Bartha will represent Hungary next month at the European Junior Championships in Italy, where he will run the 400m.

Vicky Fouhy, who just completed her senior season at Virginia, will run the 1500m next month at the United Kingdom National Championships, looking to qualify for the World Championships in Moscow later in the summer.

The Cavaliers' throws coaches will also be in action this summer. Assistant coach Martin Maric will represent his native Croatia in the Mediterranean Games later this month and could qualify to throw the discus at the World Championships. Volunteer assistant Ehsan Haddadi will throw the discus at most of the IAAF Diamond League meets this summer and will look for his second medal at the World Championships. He was the bronze medalist in the event in 2011.
