GREENSBORO, N.C.—Virginia juniors Filip Mihaljevic and Henry Wynne have garnered ACC Outdoor Track and Field year-end awards, the conference announced Friday (June 17). Mihaljevic has been named ACC Outdoor Men’s Field Performer of the Year and Wynne has been designated ACC Outdoor Men’s Track Performer of the Year.

Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) became the first Cavalier to win an NCAA field event title when he captured the shot put championship at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The junior thrower broke the Virginia record with his winning throw, hitting a mark of 20.71m (67’ 11.5”). Mihaljevic also earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the discus. Mihaljevic was honored as the ACC Championships’ Men’s Field MVP after winning the shot put and discus at the conference meet in May.

Wynne (Westport, Conn.), who earlier in the year captured the NCAA title in the mile and was named the ACC Indoor Men’s Track Performer of the Year, earned All-America honors in the 1,500 meters with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Wynne captured the ACC title in the 1,500m at the conference meet in May. The junior runner broke the school record in the event with a 3:38.05 at the Virginia Challenge in May.

Mihaljevic and Wynne become the sixth and seventh Cavaliers to earn year-end ACC outdoor honors. Mihaljevic is the first Virginia field athlete recognized since Nick Vena in 2012, while Wynne is first track standout to be honored since Robby Andrews in 2010.
