CHARLOTTEVILLE, Va.--The Virginia track and field program has a multitude of current, future and former student-athletes competing across the world early this summer.

"Having the opportunity to compete at a high level during the summer is a huge benefit for our student-athletes," UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said.

Coming up this weekend, Class of 2016 graduate Adam Visokay (Ruckersville, Virginia) and graduate student William Gray (Birmingham, England) will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the British Championships June 24-26 in Birmingham, England. Visokay competed in the British Under-23 Championships last weekend and placed fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Graduate student Aisha Naibe-Wey (London, England) and rising sophomore Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) will compete at the CAA African Senior Championships June 22-26 in Durban, South Africa. Naibe-Wey will represent Sierra Leone in the women's 400m hurdles, while Efekoro will compete for Nigeria in the shot put.

Class of 2015 graduate Payton Hazzard will run in the men's 400 meters and 4x400m relay as a guest at the Trinidad and Tobago National Championships June 24-26 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Hazzard will represent Grenada in the 400m and 4x400m relay at the OECS (Organization of Eastern Caribbean States) Championships July 2-3 in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Rising sophomore Hilmar Jonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) will compete in the men's hammer at the Slovak Championships June 25-26 in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. Jonsson finished second and set a new PR and school record with a mark of 72.12m (236' 7") June 18 at the Budapest Open in Budapest, Hungary.

Recent graduates Jordan Lavender (Class of 2015) and Stephanie Garcia (Class of 2011) will compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials July 1-10 in Eugene, Ore. Lavender will run in the 400m and Garcia will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Rising senior Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) will represent Croatia at the European Athletics Championships July 6-10 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Mihaljevic will compete in the shot put, the event he captured the 2016 NCAA outdoor title in.

In previous action, incoming freshman Jordan Scott captured the triple jump title at the Jamaican National Junior Championships with a mark of 16.61m (54' 6"), which would have ranked fourth in the NCAA this year.

Additional Cavaliers competing in international competitions later in the summer will be announced a later date.
