Cavaliers Release Cross Country Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia head coach Jason Vigilante has released the schedule for the 2009 men’s and women’s cross country teams. The season features four home meets for the back-to-back men’s ACC Champions and 2008 NCAA Southeast Women’s Champions, in addition to the conference meet, the regional championships and the NCAA Championships.

The Cavaliers will kick off the season with two-straight home meets, hosting the Alumni Cross Country Run at Panorama Farms on Friday, Sept. 11, before teams gather in Charlottesville for the annual Lou Onesty Invitational on Saturday, Sept 19.

Virginia will take its first trip on Saturday, Oct. 3, heading to Fairfax, Va., for the George Mason Invitational, before returning home for the Panorama Farms Invitational on Oct. 16.

The championship portion of the season will begin on Saturday, Oct. 31, as the Cavaliers head to Cary, N.C., looking to win another ACC title. A year ago, former Cavalier Ryan Foster earned Virginia its first-ever individual conference champion, as he led the men’s team to its second-consecutive team title. Six Cavaliers earned all-conference honors at the meet.

Virginia will return home to close out the regular season with the Cavalier Invitational on Friday, Nov. 6, before heading to Louisville, Ky., for the 2009 NCAA Southeast Region Championships. The women, coming off their first-ever southeast region championship a year ago, return all three all-region performers to the squad, while the men finished runner-up and return three of four earn all-region honorees.

The 2009 NCAA Championships will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind.
