Ten Cavaliers Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE - Ten members of the Virginia men's and women's track and field teams were recognized as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its all-academic awards.

"We are extremely proud of these 10 student-athletes," said head coach Bryan Fetzer. "We continually stress in our program that we want individuals who are successful on the track and in the classroom. These individuals have put in that hard work, both athletically and academically, and we are glad to see the recognized with this honor."

All four of the Cavaliers who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, distance runners Mark Amirault, Thomas Porter and Barbara Strehler, and javelin thrower Abbey Karin, were selected to the teams.

Joining Karin and Strehler on the women's team were multi-event athlete Anna Finger, distance runners Vicky Fouhy and Catherine White and sprinter Jordan Lavender. Taylor Gilland joined his fellow distance runners, Amirault and Porter, on the men's team.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).



In addition to the individual awards, the Virginia women's team received a USTFCCCA Team All-Academic Award having a team cumulative GPA of over 3.00 last year.
