Seven Cavaliers Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.– Seven members of the Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams were named to the U.S. Track and Field All-Academic Team, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Friday.

Junior Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.) and sophomore Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) were honored from the women’s program, while seniors Jeff Jernigan (DeKalb, Ga.) and Zach Herriott (Kansas City, Mo.), redshirt junior Thomas Madden (Front Royal, Va.), redshirt sophomore Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) and sophomore Jake Dixon (Falmouth Maine) represented the men’s program. Additionally, both the men’s and women’s squads were recognized in the team honors.  

Herriott and Lint earned All-America honors for competing in the NCAA Championships during the season. Herriott finished 12th in the indoor 5000m, while Lint competed in the decathlon at the outdoor championships.



Jernigan, Leonard, Mautz, Madden and Dixon qualified for the award after advancing to the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Rounds during the outdoor season.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA Track and Field All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of two athletic standards. For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

For a team to qualify, a squad must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 during the most recent grading period.
