CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia cross country teams return to action Friday (Sept. 26) as they host the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. The Cavalier men and women will both host a strong field of competitors at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va., with both races featuring two nationally-ranked squads and numerous regionally-ranked teams.

The women's 6K race will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 11 a.m. Admission is to the meet is free. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a Virginia cross country t-shirt and orange pom-poms. There will also be a performance by the Cavalier Band and appearances by the Virginia cheerleaders and Cavman.

The No. 13 Cavalier men's team is one of two nationally-ranked teams competing, along with No. 12 Iona. All 12 men's teams in the field are ranked among the top 15 in their respective regions, including eight of the top 15 in the Southeast Region (No. 2 Virginia, No. 5 William & Mary, No. 8 Duke, No. 9 High Point, No. 10 Liberty, No. 12 Furman, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 14 Clemson). Arizona (No. 11 West Region), Auburn (No. 2 South Region), Bucknell (No. 9 Mid-Atlantic Region) and Iona (No. 2 Northeast Region) round out the field.

The No. 10 Cavalier women's team is joined by No. 26 William & Mary to headline this year's women's race. They are joined by five regionally ranked squads: 2013 NCAA runner-up Arizona (No. 6 West Region), Auburn (No. 6 South Region), Bucknell (No. 13 Mid-Atlantic Region), Furman (No. 7 Southeast Region) and Wake Forest (No. 8 Southeast Region). Clemson, High Point and Liberty round out the 10-team women's field.

Last year, the Cavalier women won the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational for the second time in the five-year history of the meet (2011, 2013). The Cavalier men, who won the title in 2009 and 2011, finished third at last year's meet.

The meet is the last regular season home meet for the Cavaliers. Virginia will host the 2014 ACC Championships at Panorama Farms on Oct. 31.
