NEW ORLEANS—The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams are both ranked No. 6 in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association southeast regional poll, the organization announced Tuesday (Oct. 16).

The men dropped out of the national poll and three spots in the regional rankings to No. 6 after a 27th-place finish at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. The women stayed steady at No. 6 in the regional rankings this week.

Like their last race, the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational, the Cavaliers were led by graduate students. Zach Gates (Fishers, Ind.) was the top finisher for the men, crossing the line 24th overall in an 8K time of 23:48, while Catherine White (Roanoke, Va.) placed 21st overall in 6K time of 20:06 to lead the women.

Up next for Virginia is the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Blacksburg, Va., on Oct. 27.
