Charlottesville, Va.- The Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships for the third-consecutive year on Friday (Nov. 10) at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. The women’s 6,000-meter race will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 10,000-meter race at 11:30 a.m.
Fans can find a link to live results at VirginiaSports.com. Admission to the meet is free, but there will be a $5 fee to park.
The top two-teams and top-four individuals, from each of the nine regional sites, will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships in Louisville Ky. Additionally, 13 teams will earn at-large bids which will be announced by the NCAA on Saturday, Nov. 11.
The Cavaliers will face more than 40 teams at the regional meet with both sides featuring three nationally ranked teams, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association of America’s latest release. The men’s race will feature No. 7 Furman, No. 9 Virginia
Last time out, UVA’s men finished fourth at the ACC Championships with senior Brent Demarest (Charleston, S.C.) recording the second-fastest time at the meet. Sophomore Lachlan Cook (Brisbane, Australia) was next to finish for the Cavaliers finishing fifth overall, while senior Chase Weaverling (Darnestown, Md.) finished 19th. All three student-athletes were named to the All-ACC team.
The women’s team finished eighth at the ACC Championships. Senior Frances Schmiede (Sydney, Australia) and graduate student Beth Hawling (Cheltenham, Great Britain) paced the Cavaliers finishing eighth and ninth, respectively, for All-ACC honors.
At last year’s Southeast Regional Championships, the Cavalier men finished second, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Cook and Weaverling earned USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region honors for placing 12th and 14th, respectively.
The women’s team placed sixth at last year’s competition with junior Emily Mulhern (Ijamsville, Md.) finishing eighth for USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region honors.
Friday’s competition will be the third-consecutive regional meet and seventh collegiate championship event at Panorama Farms in Earlysville. The site has hosted the 2006, 2007 and 2014 ACC Championships as well as the 2013, 2015 and 2016 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships. Panorama Farms has been the home course of the Cavaliers since 2001.
