RALEIGH, N.C. - - Matt Camp doubled in the bottom of the ninth to score the winning run as No. 17 NC State rallied to defeat No. 14 Virginia, 10-9, Saturday night in the second game of their Atlantic Coast Conference series at Doak Field. Tom Hagan led Virginia going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored while Brandon Marsh, Brandon Guyer, David Adams and Tim Henry all had two hits for the Cavaliers, who fell to 24-7 and 6-5 in the ACC.

Jacob Thompson started the game and held NC State to four runs on six hits in five innings. He added four strikeouts. Michael Schwimer pitched one inning and struck out one. Casey Lambert (2-2) took the loss as he allowed six runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings and struck out four. Henry added two RBIs for the Cavaliers. Camp led the Wolfpack going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Brian Aragon, Ramon Corona and Chris Engle each had two hits.

Sam Walls picked up the win for NC State as he tossed the final inning and recorded two strikeouts.

The Wolfpack trailed 9-8 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Corona led off the inning with an infield single. After UVa picked up the next two outs with Corona on second, Matt Payne's single to right field tied the game, 9-9. A single from Jonathan Diaz moved the winning run into scoring position, Camp doubled off the left field wall to score Payne for the winning run.

 

 

NC State scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull within, 9-8. Aaron Bates hit a three-run home run and Camp's infield single scored Chris Engle.

Sean Doolittle's sacrifice fly scored Marsh, who tripled with one out, in the top of the eighth as UVa extended its lead to 9-4.

NC State scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to come within, 7-4. The Cavaliers went ahead, 8-4, on Henry's RBI single to score Hagan in the top of the seventh.

Hagan's RBI double in the top of the fourth made it, 2-1. Virginia used the five-run fifth inning to build a six-run lead. Greg Miclat singled, Brandon Marsh walked and Sean Doolittle reached on an error to load the bases. The Cavaliers then had back-to-back RBI singles from David Adams and Brandon Guyer to go ahead, 4-1. Jeremy Farrell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it, 5-1. An infield single from Hagan gave the Hoos a 6-1 lead. Virginia's final run of the inning came on Beau Seabury's sacrifice bunt giving the Hoos the 7-1 lead.

Virginia broke through the game's first run in the top of the third. Henry drove in Hagan putting the Hoos ahead, 1-0. NC State tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom half of the inning as Matt Camp scored on an RBI single from Brian Aragon.

Virginia and NC State will wrap up their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. Senior lefty Mike Ballard will face NC State's Eryk McConnell.
