CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia junior outfielder Derek Fisher (Rexmont, Pa.) has been tabbed as the first ACC Player of the Week for the 2014 season, as announced by the conference office Monday (Feb. 17). It marks the first time Fisher has earned the distinction.

Fisher hit .455 (5-for-11) in three weekend games as Virginia posted two wins in the Hughes Bros. Challenge in Wilmington, N.C. Fisher had at least one hit in all three games to lead the top-ranked Cavaliers, who bounced back from an opening loss to Kentucky with wins over VMI and UNC Wilmington.

Fisher recorded two hits in each of Virginia's wins, including a pair of run-scoring hits in the Cavaliers' 7-2 victory over UNC Wilmington. Fisher scored five times in the three games to lead all ACC players in weekend play and also had three RBI.

Fisher tripled in UVa's Saturday win over VMI and added a double off the right-center field wall in the triumph over UNCW. With the triple, Fisher moved into a third-place tie in the Virginia history book with 12 career triples, matching Tyler Cannon (2007-10).

The top-ranked Cavaliers open the home portion of their schedule at 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 19) when William and Mary comes to Davenport Field. UVa then plays host to East Carolina Friday through Sunday (Feb. 21-23) in a three-game series.
