CHARLOTTESVILLE - Virginia pitcher Jacob Thompson (Danville, Va.) has been named a semifinalist for the Roger Clemens Award, which is presented at the end of the season to the premier pitcher in college baseball. Thompson is one of 10 semifinalists for the award. The award will be presented July 11 at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Houston.

Thompson has a 10-0 record and 1.48 ERA this season. He has struck out 85 batters in 91.1 innings and has gone at least five innings in each of his starts this year.

The 2007 semifinalists are Adrian Alaniz (Texas), Barry Enright (Pepperdine), Preston Guilmet (Arizona), Bryan Henry (Florida State), Brian Matusz (San Diego), Adam Mills (Charlotte), Kyle Nicholson (Texas A&M), David Price (Vanderbilt), Nick Schmidt (Arkansas), and Thompson. The group includes three seniors, four juniors and three sophomores. Six of the 10 throw right-handed.
