CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its brackets and start times for the 2007 ACC Baseball Tournament, scheduled for May 23-27 at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla. Virginia, the No. 3 seed, will play in the first game of the tournament at 10 a.m. Wednesday against No. 6 seed North Carolina State.
The 2007 tournament takes on a new format, as the eight qualifying teams are divided into two divisions. The four teams in each division will play a round robin, with each squad guaranteed to play three games. The teams with the best record in each division will square off for the championship at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Virginia and N.C. State are part of Division B, which also includes No. 2 seed North Carolina and No. 7 seed Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers will play Georgia Tech at 4 p.m. Thursday and North Carolina at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Division A consists of No. 1 seed Florida State, No. 4 seed Clemson, No. 5 seed Miami and No. 8 seed Wake Forest.
The tournament features unprecedented television coverage. For the first time in league history, all 13 games will be televised. Virginia's game with N.C. State will be televised live on Fox Sports South, Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic and SUN Sports. The Cavaliers' game with Georgia Tech will air live on SportSouth and SUN Sports, while the North Carolina will be broadcast live on SportSouth, Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic, FSN Florida and SUN Sports.
Virginia will be playing N.C. State for the 12th-consecutive season in the ACC Tournament, and the `Hoos went 1-2 against the Wolfpack two weeks ago at Davenport Field. Virginia won two of three games March 17-18 at North Carolina and split two games with Georgia Tech April 13-14 at home in a rain-shortened series.
