2018 ABCA All-Region Teams
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
Junior second baseman Andy Weber (Aurora, Ohio) earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings First Team All-Region honors as announced by the organization’s All-America Committee.

Weber was one of two second basemen listed on the Atlantic Region First Team. The ABCA Atlantic Region is comprised of 38 schools along the East Coast. As a first team honoree, Weber is now eligible for the ABCA All-America team scheduled to be announced on Monday, June 18. He has already received All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper this season.

A Cavalier has been recognized on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team in 13 of the last 14 seasons. Under head coach Brian O’Connor, 27 Cavaliers have garnered All-Region accolades and 13 have gone on to earn All-America honors including First Team All-American, Adam Haseley last season.

Weber was drafted in the fifth round (158th overall) by the Chicago Cubs in last week’s Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. The left-handed hitting infielder led the Cavaliers in nearly offensive category. He earned First Team All-Conference honors prior to the ACC Championship in Durham.

The third-year finished year with a .344 batting average, second-highest in the ACC. His 19 doubles were tied for the second most amongst ACC cohorts. In addition, Weber racked up 72 hits (T-7th most in ACC), drove in 50 runs (team-best) and hit five home runs (team-best).

He was the model of consistency, reaching base in all but four of his 54 games played. Earlier in the season, he reached base safely in 32-straight games and had two hit streaks of 10 or more games. He finished the season hitting safely in the last seven contests and concluded regular season play by homering in back-to-back games.
