Coming off a trip to the 2014 College World Series Finals, the Cavaliers open their season Feb. 13 with a three-game series at East Carolina and begin their 34-game home schedule on Feb. 17 against VCU.

    Freshman Christian Lowry (Chesapeake, Va.) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 18th inning to lift the Virginia baseball team to a 5-4 win over Marist Sunday at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, S.C. Ranked as high as No. 1 nationally, the Cavaliers (7-0) played the longest game by innings in program history, topping a 17-inning contest that ironically also occurred in Charleston on Feb. 26, 2006, against College of Charleston.

    Virginia Walks Off With 5-4 Win Over Cornell to Sweep Weekend

    Adam Haseley (Fr., Windermere, Fla.) hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to bring home the deciding run as the Virginia baseball team walked off with a 5-4 win over Cornell Sunday at The Ripken Experience's Griffith Field in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Ranked as high as No. 1 nationally, Virginia completed the third weekend of the season with an unblemished 10-0 record. Because of inclement weather and field conditions in Charlottesville, UVa has yet to compete in its home park, Davenport Field.

    The Virginia baseball team opened ACC play with a doubleheader split against Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Ranked as high as No. 1 nationally, Virginia (11-1, 1-1 ACC) suffered its first defeat of 2015 with a 1-0 loss in Game 1 but bounced back to win the nightcap, 2-1.

Ranked as high as No. 1 nationally, Virginia (12-1, 2-1 ACC) captured the series, two games to one, and has won its last six ACC-opening series.

    The No. 7 Virginia baseball team (14-5, 3-4 ACC) used a five-run seventh inning to get past No. 11 Florida State (17-6, 5-2 ACC) and earn an 8-4 victory Friday night (March 20) at Davenport Field.

    Kevin Doherty (Jr., Laytonsville, Md.) started the game playing left field, hitting a two-RBI single to center field in the second inning, but moved to the pitcher's mound in the seventh inning, throwing 1.1 innings of relief and earning his first career win.

    Florida State Blasts Its Way Past Virginia, 12-10

    March 21, 2015
    No. 11 Florida State (18-6, 6-2 ACC) powered its way to a 12-10 victory over No. 7 Virginia (14-6, 3-5 ACC) on Saturday (March 21) at Davenport Field.

    The Seminoles hit four home runs, including a grand slam from John Sansone in the fifth inning and two home runs in the ninth, to down the Cavaliers and even the series at a game apiece.

    Florida State Powers Its Way Past Virginia in Series Finale, 13-1

    March 22, 2015
    No. 11 Florida State (19-6, 7-2 ACC) rolled to a 13-1 victory over No. 7 Virginia (14-7, 3-6 ACC) on Sunday (March 22) at Davenport Field.

    Florida State used three hits, two home runs and six RBI from DJ Stewart to set the pace, while Dylan Busby also connected on a three-run home run helping the Seminoles' offense.

    The No. 12 Virginia baseball team dropped the opening game of its three-game series with No. 7 Louisville, 8-1, Saturday afternoon in front of 4,372 fans at Davenport Field. The Cardinals (23-7, 12-1 ACC) broke a 1-1 tie with a five-run seventh inning in winning the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

    The No. 12 Virginia baseball team fell 11-4 to No. 7 Louisville Sunday afternoon at Davenport Field. Zach Lucas's solo home run in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 deadlock as the Cardinals (24-7, 13-1 ACC) clinched the series win.

    The No. 16 Virginia baseball team was shut out, 4-0, by No. 5 Louisville Monday evening at Davenport Field. Louisville (25-7, 14-1 ACC) finished off a three-game ACC series sweep as Virginia (19-12, 6-9) was swept at home in conference play for the first time since April 13-15, 2012, by North Carolina.

    The Virginia baseball team picked up a 5-4 win over No. 9 Miami Friday evening in front of 3,589 fans at Davenport Field. In snapping a nine-game Miami win streak, the Cavaliers (23-14, 8-11 ACC) got clutch, two-out hitting while the bullpen worked six innings after starting pitcher Nathan Kirby (Jr., Midlothian, Va.) exited after just three innings with a strained left lat muscle.

    The Virginia baseball team rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to down No. 9 Miami, 5-2, Saturday afternoon in front of 4,228 spectators at Davenport Field. The Cavaliers (24-14, 9-11 ACC) have captured the first two games with the Hurricanes (29-11, 14-6) to clinch the series win and go for the series sweep at 10 a.m. Sunday. The game time has been moved from the original 1 p.m. start time because of incoming inclement weather.

    The Virginia baseball team fell 8-6 to No. 9 Miami Sunday at Davenport Field as the Hurricanes (30-11, 15-6 ACC) salvaged the final game of the series. Virginia (24-15, 9-12) took two of three games in the series as it won its sixth straight series against Miami.

    The Virginia baseball team finished off a three-game series sweep with an 8-2 victory at North Carolina Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Cavaliers (33-19, 15-15 ACC) earned their first-ever three-game series sweep against UNC (32-22, 13-16) in Chapel Hill (the ACC went to the three-game series format in 1990).

    The Virginia baseball team opens postseason play at 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 19) when it takes on Georgia Tech in the first play-in game of the 2015 ACC Baseball Championship at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. The Cavaliers (33-19) hold the No. 7 seed, while Georgia Tech (32-22) is the No. 10 seed. The winner advances into the pool-play portion of the tournament.

    Six members of the Virginia baseball teams were named to the 2015 All-ACC Team, which was announced Monday by the conference office after voting by the league's 14 head coaches. Starting pitcher Nathan Kirby (Jr., Midlothian, Va.) was named to the first team, while shortstop Daniel Pinero (So., Toronto, Ontario), third baseman Kenny Towns (Sr., Burke, Va.) and relief pitcher Josh Sborz each were tabbed on the second team.

    Behind a one-hit shutout from right-hander Josh Sborz (Jr., McLean, Va.), the Virginia baseball team blanked Georgia Tech, 11-0, Tuesday in the opening game of the 2015 ACC Baseball Championship at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. The game concluded after seven innings because of the tournament's 10-run mercy rule.

    The Virginia baseball team opened the NCAA Lake Elsinore Regional with a 6-1 win over USC Friday afternoon at Lake Elsinore Diamond in Lake Elsinore, Calif. The region's No. 3 seed, Virginia (35-22) advances to play at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday and faces No. 4 seed San Diego State, which bested top-seeded UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, Friday night. The No. 2 seed, USC (37-20) will play UCSB at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday in an elimination contest.

    Virginia Defeats San Diego State, 3-1, Reaches Regional Title Game

    The Virginia baseball team advanced to the regional championship game at the NCAA Lake Elsinore Regional with a 3-1 victory over San Diego State Saturday night at Lake Elsinore Diamond in Lake Elsinore, Calif. The No. 3 seed in the region, Virginia (36-22) needs one win to advance to the NCAA Super Regional and plays for the regional championship at 10 ET/7 PT on Sunday evening. Second-seeded USC (38-20) and fourth-seeded SDSU (41-22) play at 6 ET/3 PT, with the winner moving on to the championship game and needing to beat the Cavaliers twice in order to advance.

    Virginia Defeats USC, 14-10 in 11 Innings, to Win Regional Title

    The Virginia baseball team won its sixth regional championship in the last seven years Sunday as the Cavaliers rallied from four runs down to earn a 14-10 win in 11 innings over Southern California at the NCAA Lake Elsinore Regional at Lake Elsinore Diamond in Lake Elsinore, Calif. The four-hour, 48-minute marathon began late on Sunday evening and extended well into Monday morning, concluding at 4:18 a.m. ET.

    The Virginia baseball team will play host to Maryland Friday through Sunday (June 5-7) in the 2015 NCAA Charlottesville Super Regional at Davenport Field. The teams open their super regional series at 4 p.m. Friday in a game that will be televised by ESPNU. The series continues at 3 p.m. Saturday on ESPNU. If necessary, the third game of the series will be played at 3 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU or ESPN2.

    Ernie Clement (Fr., Rochester, N.Y.) hit a two-run, walk-off single to cap a three-run ninth-inning rally that gave the Virginia baseball team a 5-4 victory over Maryland Saturday afternoon at Davenport Field in Game 2 of the NCAA Charlottesville Super Regional. The hit punched the Cavaliers' fourth trip to the College World Series as UVa won the first two games to clinch the best-of-three series.

    Virginia Plays Arkansas Saturday in College World Series

    The Virginia baseball team opens the 2015 NCAA College World Series at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday as it takes on Arkansas at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The Cavaliers are making their second straight trip to Omaha as well as their fourth trip in the last seven years. Virginia and Arkansas share a bracket with Miami and Florida, which play at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday on ESPN. The winners of the Saturday games will play at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, while the losing teams face off in an elimination game at 3 p.m. ET on Monday. Both of the Monday contests will air on ESPN2.

    The Virginia baseball team opened the 2015 NCAA College World Series Saturday with a 5-3 win over Arkansas at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. Kenny Towns (Sr., Burke, Va.) hit an RBI double with two outs in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie as Virginia (40-22) won its sixth straight game in the NCAA tournament. The Cavaliers reached the 40-win plateau for the 10th time in head coach Brian O'Connor's 12 seasons at the helm of the program.

Brandon Waddell (Jr., Houston, Texas) and Josh Sborz (Jr., McLean, Va.) combined on a two-hit shutout as the Cavaliers (41-22) remained unbeaten at 7-0 in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
