NC State head coach Sidney Lowe
"We went man and we went zone. I told our wing guys in the zone to push out on their guys. Sometimes they would shoot in our face. If you have good guards, you'll win in this conference, you'll win college basketball games, and they have good guards."
"They felt us coming back and our momentum building. They got more aggressive and made big plays. That is experience, knowing when to take over and get the game back."
"We normally get a lot of shots inside, but we weren't able to execute plays tonight, and we missed a lot inside. We couldn't get easy baskets and they kept knocking the ball down."
"We had poor shot selection, especially when we made some stops. You've got to be patient and you've got to be smart. I kept telling the guys you have to turn down bad shots to get good ones. You have to get a good look at it. It's something we're working on."
"It was great to have Engin [Atsur] out there and allow the guys to play their natural positions. He's a little rusty and I didn't want him to do too much, because when you do too much you end up making yourself look bad. With Gavin [Grant] not starting, it was a decision I made. I wasn't pleased with his defensive effort in previous games, and I wanted us to come out with a strong defense at first. When he came off the bench, he played good defense and proved he wanted to play."
Virginia head coach Dave Leitao
"There were stretches when [Singletary] dazzled early, then J.R. [Reynolds] in the second half, and in those stretches they were nothing short of phenomenal, especially on a night when some of the guys behind them didn't have their best games. Those two made shot after shot, play after play, and gave us a chance to win the basketball game."
"I didn't think that after a 40-point performance [vs. Wake Forest] that I'd be able to say that J.R. came back even better, but he did. Some of the shots he made were just tremendous. He's playing with a lot of confidence right now. He's had some excellent games, he knows he has a green light to shoot, and he's making them."
"I thought that at the point [when Reynolds hit his three-pointer with 10:57 left in the second half] that NC State was getting fatigued. Having been through what Sidney's going through with a short bench, it's getting to that time in the season where you've played a number of games and it gets difficult to manage fatigue. They'd just made an 11-0 run to cut the lead to one, and that takes something out of a team. Then J.R. hits a shot like that, it just takes a lot out of a team."
"I thought our defense was pretty solid except for a couple of stretches. The game got ugly at times, but credit the defense with stabilizing us. It easily could have been a situation where we couldn't score and couldn't score, but the defense kept us stabilized and kept them off balance."
