With three three-point field goals today, J.R. Reynolds moves into a tie for first place in career three-point field goals made among active ACC players. He has now made a total of 209 three-point field goals in his career, tying him with NC State's Engin Atsur. Virginia Tech's Zabian Dowdell is third with 207.
With his 25 points today, J.R. Reynolds, now with 1,594 career points, moves closer to passing Bob McCarty for 11th on Virginia's all-time scoring list. He is now only 32 points shy of McCarty's career mark.
Today's victory is Dave Leitao's first win over Georgia Tech as a head coach. He is now 1-1 against the Yellow Jackets.
With the Cavaliers' victory today, Dave Leitao has now defeated all other ACC teams in his first two years with Virginia.
With their tenth conference victory, the Cavaliers have won more conference games than in any season since 1994-95. In that season, Virginia went 12-4 in conference play.
In the first half, Sean Singletary made both of his free throw attempts. On the season, he is now 45-46 from the free throw line in the first half of home games.
Sean Singletary (24 points) and J.R. Reynolds (25 points) both scored in double figures for the 17th consecutive game. On the season, Singletary has scored 502 points while Reynolds has scored 499. Singletary and Reynolds now each have 11 20-point games this season and 24 in their career. It is the third time this season and the fifth time overall that the two have scored 20 points in the same game. The previous two times this season were against NC State (Jan. 24) and American (Dec. 28).
Today was only the eigth time this season the Cavaliers have been outrebounded by their opponent. Georgia Tech outrebounded Virginia 35-27. This is the third straight game Virginia has been outrebounded by their opponents.
In making 18 of 19 free throw attempts for 94.7%, the Cavaliers turned in their second best performance from the free throw line for the year. The only game better was against American (Dec. 28) when the Cavaliers made 27 of 28 for 96.4%.
Virginia ended the game on a 13-0 run. The score was 69-62 in favor of Georgia Tech with 3:41 remaining in the game.
