CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
The Virginia football program held its annual Pro Timing Day for all draft-eligible players on Thursday. All 32 NFL franchises and one Canadian League franchise were represented during the 3-hour workout session. There were 17 former Cavaliers taking part in the event at the UVa practice facility.
Kris Burd, Matt Conrath, Chris Hinkebein, Jimmy Howell, Cam Johnson, Dom Joseph, Ray Keys, Rodney McLeod, Anthony Mihota, Max Milien, Chase Minnifield, Corey Mosley, Austin Pasztor, Robert Randolph, Matt Snyder, Aaron Taliaferro and a senior from the 2010 seaosn, Joe Torchia.
"I think I performed to the best of my abilities," commented Johnson following the event. "I came to put my best foot forward and I think I did that today.
Burd reflected on the event by saying, "I was running around here with my teammates one last time, so it was a bittersweet moment for me."
The day started for scouts at 6:30 a.m. with film study of selected players. After check-in and an information meeting, the draft-eligible players were in the recently renovated McCue Center weight room going through measurements and physical testing. The activities included measuring height, weight, hands, arm span and reach. The players also tested their vertical jump, broad jump and bench press.
After finished in the weight room, everyone moved outside to the practice fields. Draft-eligible players ran a 40-yard dash, a 60-yard shuttle and another short shuttle. Players also ran a three-cone drill to determine quickness and agility.
The event finished up with individual player workouts at their specific positions. After the position drills, scouts were free to speak with players and work them out at different positions.
This benefits players like Cam Johnson.
"I believe I have versatility and I think teams are looking for," said Johnson. "I can play in space or with my hand in the dirt as well."
Dom Joseph also was able to showcase his versatility.
"I went out there and did what I was trained to do," said Joseph. "I think I had a solid day, I will go to the bank with how I did today. I think I would give a good contribution to a team because I have experience at corner and safety, I am a hard special teams guy, a team player and I believe I am coachable."
The 2012 NFL Draft is set commence on April 26 and concludes on April 28 from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
